County reminds residents to ‘Call or Click’ before they dig this Dig Safe Month

April 17, 2024

Cobourg, ON – April 17, 2024 – Following today’s meeting of County Council, Northumberland County Warden Brian Ostrander joined County Director of Public Works Denise Marshall to raise the Dig Safe Flag on the County’s community flagpole in recognition of Dig Safe Month.

Every year in April, Dig Safe Month promotes awareness of safe digging practices aimed at enhancing personal safety and minimizing damages to underground infrastructure.

“Safe digging practices are essential to ensure the safety of community members and to protect our underground infrastructure,” states County Warden Brian Ostrander. “Dig Safe Month serves as an important reminder to always contact Ontario One Call before any dig – whether you’re looking to do some minor landscaping or you’re starting a larger construction project. By making a quick call or click before you dig, you can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and damages and help to prioritize safety in our community.”

Northumberland County encourages residents, contractors, and businesses alike to ‘Call or Click Before You Dig’ by contacting Ontario One Call to locate buried cables, pipes, wires and other buried infrastructure.

Contact Ontario One Call before you dig: call 1-800-400-2255 or visit Ontarioonecall.ca. For more information about how to dig safe, visit DigSafe.ca.
